Latvia: criticized withdrawal of Western troops from Afghanistan

Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks called the tragic situation in Afghanistan and criticized the unconditional conclusion of the western states from the country. He spoke about this on the air of the LTV TV channel, writes Delfi.

According to Pabriks, it is the weakening of control from the West that has allowed the “Taliban” radical movement (prohibited in Russia) to seize power and take the Afghan capital Kabul.

The Minister of Defense of the Baltic Republic also said that the former mayor of the Afghan city Meimen asked Latvia to provide him asylum.

Earlier in Memen, the capital of the province of Fariab, there were military personnel of the Armed Forces of Latvia. Pabriks instructed to identify those Afghan citizens who collaborated with the local Latvian mission, and consider providing asylum to them.

On Monday, August 16, the United Kingdom Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that now Afghanistan is controlled by militants. He added that the current situation would lead to the influx of refugees to the countries of the whole world.

August 15 Representatives of the Taliban announced that they were kept under control the whole territory of Afghanistan.
