Mayor of Riga will continue to support Belarusian opposition in fight against Lukashenko

Mayor of Riga Martins Stakis intends to continue to support the Belarusian opposition in the fight against the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko. It is reported by Telegram-channel Baltnews.

According to the mayor of the city, thanks to the opposition movement of “tyranny” Lukashenko, one day will end. Stakis recalled that there was a similar situation in Latvia, but at present she is a free democratic country, and this period will also come in Belarus.

Mayor added that the support of Belarusians is not related to its political ambitions, but only reflects the position of all residents of Riga and his personally on the issue of resolving the political crisis in Belarus.

July 20, Lukashenko called on the Ambassador of Belarus in Latvia to “fill the face” Mayor of Riga for the fact that with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgar Rinkevich replaced the Belarusian flag on the white-red and white cloth at the World Hockey Championship.

Earlier in Belarus in Stakis and Rinkevich, a criminal case was brought. They are accused of committing intentional actions aimed at initiating hostility on the basis of national affiliation. In the Prosecutor General’s Office, Belarus stressed that Latvian officials were abused over state symbols and humiliated the national dignity of Belarusians.

In May, Stakis and Rinkevich got rid of the flag of Belarus on the spot, where the banners of the countries participating in the World Hockey Championship were posted in Riga. The state flag of the republic was replaced by the symbolism of the Belarusian opposition.
