Belgian human rights organization responded to decision of Prosecutor General’s Office

Belgian human rights organization International Partnership for Human Rights (“International Partnership for Human Rights”, IPHR), which Russian Prosecutor General’s Office recognized undesirable, ceased operations in Russia. About this “Lente.ru” reported director of NPO Brigit Dufur (Brigitte Dufour).

Representatives of the organization called the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office “unfair and unreasonable” and stated that they study ways to challenge him. They stressed that IPHR has never imagined the risk for the Russian side.

NGO members accused Moscow in violating their international obligations against freedom of associations and compliance with other fundamental human rights. “We call on the Russian authorities to cancel their decision and allow IPHR to continue their work to protect the rights of vulnerable people in Russia for the benefit of the country and its citizens,” the organization says.

On August 13, the Russian Prosecutor’s Office decided to recognize the IPHR by an unwanted organization. The reason for such a step was that the organization of the organization represents the threat to the basics of the Constitution of Russia. Later in the State Duma clarified that IPHR was engaged in learning abroad activists speaking for the introduction of the West of sanctions against Moscow.
