Debian project released distribution for schools – Debian-EDU 11

prepared release-oriented use in educational institutions Debian EDU 11 distribution, also known as the name Skolelinux . The distribution contains integrated to one installation form a set of funds for quick deployment in schools both servers and workstations, while supporting stationary workplaces in computer classes and portable systems. Assembly prepared the size of 5.8 GB .

Debian EDU from the box is adapted to organize computer classes based on diskless workstations and thin customers downloading over the network. . The distribution has several types of workers’ environments, allowing the use of Debian EDU both on the latest PCs and on outdated equipment. The choice is offered work environment based on XFCE, GNOME, LXDE, MATE, KDE PLASMA,
CINNAMON and LXQT. In the basic supply, more than 60 training packages are presented.

Main innovations:

  • transition to the Debian 11 “Bullseye base”.
  • new release of LTSP To organize work of diskless workstations. The work of thin customers is carried out using the Terminal Server x2go .
  • To download over the network instead of PXELinux, the IPXE package compatible with LTSP is involved.
  • For IPXE installations, graphic mode is used in the installer.
  • Samba Pack is configured to deploy separate servers with SMB2 / SMB3 support.
  • To search for Firefox ESR and Chromium by default, the DuckDuckGo service is involved.
  • Added utility to configure Freeradius with support for EAP-TTLS / PAP and PEAP-MSCAPV2 methods.
  • Improved toolkit to configure a new system with a “minimal” profile as a separate gateway.
