Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvidas Anushauskas confirmed Kiberatak to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) system and told who can be involved in theft of secret documents. This is reported by LRT.LT with reference to the head of the defense department.
According to him, hacking was produced by handling in the region with hackers, closely connected with the special services of Russia. He clarified that it was about hacking in November 2020, which the authorities were deliberately silent, and the Attack perfect on the eve was unsuccessful.
Anushauskas added that information about diplomatic correspondence could serve as a provocation against the background of political unrest in the republic. However, later on the network, messages from the hackers themselves appeared. They reported that more than 1.5 million documents were stolen, many of them are marked as secret.
They contain the correspondence of Lithuanian diplomats with NATO member states, data on countering the Russian gas pipeline “Northern Stream-2”, plans for the start of hostilities with Belarus and so on. The President of Lithuania Gitanas housing noted that the leak of this data can cause a huge damage to the country’s image and its relationship with the allies.
On August 12, adviser to the President of the Republic of Asta Skysgirite reported that important secret documents were stolen from the Foreign Ministry. She is confident that the organizers and participants of the mass protests held in the country are guilty of the information. Press secretary of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Vitaut did not comment on the leakage of the data and stated that the attack was investigated by law enforcement officers.
