Against the background of a coronavirus infection in the world, the indicator of mental disorders among children and adolescents has grown. This is reported in the Jama Pediatric Medical Journal.
It is noted that, according to the generalized data obtained in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, each fourth young man in the world experiences clinically elevated symptoms of depression, and every fifth – clinically elevated anxiety symptoms. “These combined estimates are twice as much as the extramonamic indicators,” the study says.
On average, 25.2% of young people were experiencing depression, and 20.5% – alarm during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the outbreak of Coronavirus, these indicators on average were equal to 12.9% and 11.6%, respectively. The prevalence of clinically pronounced symptoms of depression and anxiety during a pandemic turned out to be higher among the girls. Symptoms of depression are also more often susceptible to children older children.
The study was conducted from March 8 to March 22 of this year. The result was obtained by meta-analysis among 29 studies in which 80,879 participants were participating under 18 years old.
In November 2020, Robert Yolken (Robert Yolken) from Jones Hopkins Medical School came to the conclusion that Coronavirus’s Pandemic caused the epidemic of mental illness. It was noted that people with mental disorders turn out to be more vulnerable to SARS-COV-2, which complicates the provision of medical services and promotes mortality.
