US authorities announced the introduction of additional sanctions against a number of Iran’s citizens and Cuba. This was reported by the Edition MarketWatch.
US Department of Finance August 13 introduced sanctions against Businessman Oman Mahmoud Rashid Amur Al-Habsi and his companies. It is considered the owner of a network that is illegally supplying oil to Iran in the interests of the elite military-political formation of the Corps of the Guards of the Iranian Revolution (KSIR). The Ministry of Finance also stated that Amur Al-Habsi are “destabilizing regional activities”. Restrictions involve the freezing of assets, ban on transactions and deprivation of access to the American financial system.
Previously, the US authorities warned that they could use sanctions against Iran to prevent the supply of arms to the country from Moscow and Beijing.
The Department also announced restrictions on the two Cuban officials and military unit. Sanctions are aimed against Romariko Vidal Sotomayhor Garcia, Pedro Orlando Martinez Fernandez and the “Troopas de Perevención) of the Cuban Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces. The Ministry of Finance called its actions “by the continuation of the aggressive persecution of people in connection with the actions for the suppression of peaceful processed protests.” For these persons, the management of foreign assets control introduced a ban on transactions, and also frozen their assets.
For the Latin American country, it became the third round of restrictive measures after the July protests. The American side also introduced sanctions against the Minister of the Armed Forces of Cuba Alvaro Lopez Mies and against the head of the Oscar Police Alejandro Sallas Valkarce and his deputy Eddie Manuel Sierra Arias. The reason is the reaction of the authorities to large-scale protests in which tens of thousands of dissenters took part. In July, the satisters of Cubans expressed dissatisfaction with the policies of the country’s communist party, and the government stiffed the protests rigidly. Police applied violence, and another 400 people were missing.
