Belarus is a safe country for migrants, since it respected the rights of people from third countries. This was announced by the President of Latvia Egils Levits during a press conference after meeting with the Prime Minister of the Baltic Republic, Krishianis Karins, writes the MixNews portal.
Levves commented on the issue of problems that may arise from Latvia due to the expulsion of illegal migrants back to the Belarusian territory.
He stressed that for the Latvian authorities, the strengthening of the border and security of the country should be an absolute priority. At the same time, he called Belorussia “a safe country that does not infiltrate people” and offered migrants to ask shelters from her.
On August 11, Latvia announced the regime of emergency (emergency) in relation to the influx of illegal immigrants. According to Krishianis Karinsha, such a decision of the government will make the Belarusian-Latvian border “actually closed”. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia Maria Golubeva added that strengthening the cross-border zone will begin immediately.
