NATO members collected an emergency meeting due to situation in Afghanistan

On Friday, August 13, the NATO Council gathered at an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. This is stated in the statement of the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

In addition to the rapid deterioration of the situation in the country, NATO members discussed the security issues of Western countries in Kabul. Stoltenberg stated that the North Atlantic Alliance countries decided to support the official government of Afghanistan and maintain their diplomatic presence in the country until it was possible.

NATO members are also concerned about the bloodshed, provoked by the actions of the Militants of the Taliban Radical Organization (prohibited in the Russian Federation). “We would like to tell the members of the Taliban that the international community never recognizes their legitimate government,” the Secretary-General concluded.

The militants have already taken control of the city of bullets-alam, the capital of Logar province. It is located 50 kilometers from Kabul. Now under the control of the official government is only four major cities, including the capital of the country.

In connection with the rapid onset of terrorists, the American authorities declared the decision to send a part of the troops in Kabul to help the evacuation of the US Embassy.
