Deputy chairman of the Upper Chamber of the Parliament of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko sent a statement to the UN General Assembly with the requirement to terminate the political and economic pressure to the republic from the European Union (EU). It is reported by BelTA.
Document calls on the organization to influence the initiators of sanctions against Minsk. It indicates that “Belarusian labor collectives” repeatedly appealed to the EU leadership with a request to admit the goods of domestic production to the European market and allow national airlines to fly over airspace block.
“However, numerous requests of the working people are ignored,” the statement said. Isachenko himself regards European restrictions as “rude interference” into the country’s domestic politics. He demanded from the Genasembly to take any measures to prevent new restrictions against Belarus.
At the end of June, the European Union introduced the fourth package of economic sanctions against Belarus. Under them were 166 physical and 15 legal entities. Brussels restricted the access of Minsk to its financial markets, introduced restrictions on trade in petroleum products and potash fertilizers, as well as tobacco products. In addition, the transfer of goods and technologies of military and dual-use, as well as insurance services for the authorities of the republic was prohibited. Restrictions connected to United Kingdom, USA and Canada.
The causes of sanctions were the actions of the Belarusian authorities against opposition leaders, violence against protesting, as well as a forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft. Official Minsk these charges rejects and considers sanctions attempt by political blackmail and pressure.
