Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Mari Lijets accused Belarus in a “hybrid attack”, commenting on the situation with migrants on the border of the European Union. Her words lead RIA Novosti.
“the flow of people through the external borders of the EU and NATO is a politically organized hybrid attack of the Belarusian regime,” the Foreign Minister emphasized. She added that this is a problem not only Lithuania and Latvia.
Liimets added that, based on the solidarity and cooperation of the Baltic countries, it is impossible to allow a subservation of the security of the region and noted that the solution to the problem is possible through the dialogue with the countries from which migration comes from. She concluded that the European Union should be ready to respond and intervene in an early stage to stop the pressure on its borders.
Premier Latvian Prime Minister Kristyanis Karinsh stated that the republic’s authorities should keep calm in the reflection of “hybrid attacks” by Belarus, which uses illegal migrants as revenge for the sanctions of the European Union countries (EU).
Latvia’s authorities announced its introduction from August 11 to November 10, the emergency regime (emergency) in the areas bordered with Belarus due to the influx of illegal migrants.
