USA, China and Russia did not ratify an additional agreement to the Treaty on the principles of the activities of states on the study and use of outer space, prohibiting military activities on the Moon, approves the American edition of Defense One.
The publication states that there is a limited number of locations on the moon suitable for accommodating inhabited or visited bases. According to Defense One, China or Russia, placing its bases in economically favorable places, can arrange a security zone around them where USA will be limited.
The publication assumes that this circumstance can provoke military actions, which will require the protection of US assets at a distance of 272 thousand miles (about 438 thousand kilometers) from the ground.
“In the future, other defensive and offensive means will be required to ensure the open and peaceful use of the arrogant space,” leads Defense One Opinion of Space Systems Engineer Laura Daffi and James Lake Lawyer.
In May, the head of NASA Bill Nelson acknowledged China with an energetic US rival on the Moon and Mars. According to him, the Chinese “demonstrated the presence of their technologies in order to overcome millions and millions of miles, make a successful landing” to the surface of Mars. The head of NASA recalled that in the coming years, China plans to send three Rovers to the moon, as well as plant a person on the natural satellite of the Earth. “We suddenly realize that they are not the owners of all this. And they are a very energetic opponent,” said the head of NASA.
