University’s scientists Alberta in Canada found potentially effective preparations against coronavirus SARS-COV-2. To search for virus inhibitors, they used the source of the synchrotron radiation of Canadian Light Source (CLS). The results of scientific work are presented in the article published in European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
Researchers revealed inhibitors that are aimed at the MPRO main protease, which splits viral proteins and participates in the replication (reproduction) of the virus. It turned out that GC376, which is a bisulfite prodrug (turns into a medicine inside the body), which is used to treat coronavirus cats, effectively suppresses MPRO SARS-COV-2. With the help of CLS, experts studied the interaction of the drug molecule with protease at the structural level.
Earlier it was reported that the international group of scientists found a rare type of human antibodies that can neutralize several different coronaviruses. These antibodies were identified in several people healing from COVID-19, and can be the basis for a universal vaccine. In another study, it was found that the preparation of fenofibrate and its active form of fenofibroic acid can destroy 70 percent of SARS-COV-2 in human cells.
