Lukashenko will consider abolition of death penalty in Belarus

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will consider the use of the death penalty in the country. This was told by the chairman of the Constitutional Commission Peter Miklashevich, BelTA reports.

According to Miklashevich, when developing changes to the Constitution, three options discusses what to do with an article that allows the use of the death penalty. One of them is “to put a question about the cancellation of the death penalty.” All options “require just consideration with the participation of the head of state,” the head of the Commission stressed.

Another option is to “not touch” an article about the death penalty, since in 1996, citizens at the referendum voted for her.

“Next, already if there are objective conditions, viewed on a special referendum. Since today the president also has the right to introduce a moratorium on execution or application of the death penalty. That is, perhaps a phased decision, as in other states,” explained Miklashevich .

Finally, it is proposed to leave the death penalty for the crimes of terrorist or a result of which people died.
