The National Armed Forces (NVS) of Latvia is ready to help state border guard (GPO) to clean up the border with Belarus, from which illegal migrants fall into the country. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Artis Pabriks, reports NRA.LV portal.
He expressed the hope that the Government of Latvia would decide on the introduction of an emergency (emergency) in the Belarusian-Latvian border and will end in new powers of GPOs and NVS. “The current oscillations and indecision can be too expensive to Latvian society,” Pabrix stressed.
The head of the Ministry of Defense also noted that the arrangement near the border with the Belarusian Camps to place illegal migrants can give them a false signal that the Latvian authorities are willing to accept them. According to him, the responsible departments “must act consistently and convincingly” so that “no violator has stepped into Latvian Earth.”
On August 10, the head of the border guard of the Republic of Guntis Puints said that large groups of illegal immigrants from the Middle East and Africa began to penetrate the territory of Belarus in Latvia. He noted that over the past day, the security forces detained about 200 refugees.
In connection with the influx of illegal migrants, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia Maria Golubev called on the government to introduce emergency regime in the Belarusian-Latvian border. It is planned that this will allow border guards to detain illegal immigrants and return them back to Belarus.
