US Air Force test hypersonic aircraft

The US Air Force (Air Force) is a contract for $ 60 million with Hermeus, which involves creating a flight demonstrator of the Quarterhorse Reusable Hypersonic Airplane, reports Breaking Defense.

It is noted that this aircraft is intended for testing a turbine engine with a combined cycle developed on the basis of the General Electric J85 turbojet engine. “By the end of the QuarterHorse flight test campaign will be the fastest reusable plane in the world,” assures Hermeus.

Breaking Defense writes that QuarterHorse will fly at a speed five times higher than the speed of sound, with the result that “a trip from New York to Paris takes only 90 minutes compared to about a family and a half hours that are required today.”

The Drive notes that the technologies developed in Quarterhorse can find application in creating high-speed administrative aircraft and “other applications”.

In July, the publication reported that the US Air Force fell the second time of the prototype of the AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW).
