In Belarus, there will be no mass protests of opposition, as participants have to pay for this “too high price”. This was announced in an interview with DPA a former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
According to her, after the events in August 2020 there were too many “victims and broken lives.” “Every participant in shares can go to prison not that 15 days, but for years. The safety of people should stand in the first place,” said Tikhanovskaya.
She added that despite the refusal to go to the opposition streets should continue to mobilize their supporters in the Belarusian society to achieve freedom and democracy in the country.
In Belarus, on August 9 last year, the presidential elections were held, in which, according to the official data of the CEC, the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, was defeated, the second place was taken by Tikhanovskaya, who did not recognize the results of the elections and who left the country. The results of the election did not recognize.
After that, mass protests began in the country. Shares were tightly suppressed by the security forces. Tens of thousands of people were detained, many told about torture and beating in insulators. At least four people died, hundreds received prison terms for opposition activities.
