The desire of the rich inhabitants of China to send their children to study in private English schools changed the Great Britain’s educational services market. Representatives of the British middle class can no longer provide their children with prestigious education. It is reported by Daily Mail.
A large-scale set of students from rich Chinese families allowed private schools to increase training fee to unacceptable for most British levels. Compared to 2019, the price for training has increased by more than 5 percent, and foreigners pay twice as much more than citizens of the country. UK educational institutions are additionally interested in foreigners’ disciples, since many colleges are offered to pass paid preparatory courses, allowing additional money on schoolchildren from China.
British are also concerned about the corruption component of the flow of students from China. A whole system has been created when colleges are paid by intermediary firms from China percentage for each submitted student. Sometimes the fee for one output from the rich family reaches 10 thousand pounds of sterling (more than a million rubles).
British “University Reception Service and Colleges” (UCAS) fears that due to the large number of Chinese schoolchildren in the future, competition for seats in British universities will seriously exacerbate. In 2021, 28,490 Chinese citizens arrived at British universities. It is expected that by 2025 the number of Chinese students studying in the UK will exceed the number of students from EU countries.
In China, the extractive education industry student has long attracted the attention of the authorities. From now on, in some provinces of the country, illegal tutoring is equal to small criminal offenses. The reason for such harsh measures of the Chinese government was the unscrupulousness of some teachers who intentionally forcing schoolchildren to private lessons. Also, the authorities are also hoping that a decrease in the costs of Chinese families to education will be favorable on the demographic indicators of the country.
