In the cosmonauts squad of the CPK named after Yu.A. Gagarin Roman Yuryevich was enrolled in 1997. Roman Roman’s first space flight made from May 27 to December 1, 2009 as the commander of the Soyuz TMA-15 spacecraft and the 20th and 21st major expeditions on the ISS together with F. De Wine (Belgium) and R. Tyrsky (Canada). During the flight, two corrections of the ISS orbit were performed, including one to evasion from cosmic garbage. In flight, astronauts performed scientific experiments on Russian, American, European, Canadian and Japanese programs. In space, the crew spent 187 days.
April 12, 2010 for the courage and heroism, which was shown in the implementation of space flight, Roman Romanenko was awarded the title of Hero of Russia with a sense of the Medal “Golden Star”.
