Belarus: leader of opposition party was sentenced to three months of arrest

The court in Minsk sentenced to three months of the arrest of the leader of the United Civil Party and a member of the Coordination Council (COP) of the Belarusian opposition of Nikolai Kozlov. It is reported by the Human Rights Center “Spring”.

Kozlov was recognized as guilty of disclosing these investigators in a criminal case against the Coordination Council. The court passed in closed mode. Previously, the opposition refused to give a subscription to non-disclosure after interrogations in the COP case, for which he was attracted to administrative responsibility.

“I believe that this case is politically motivated, fabricated and aims to simply punish me for my political activity,” said Kozlov.

Earlier in Minsk began a closed trial of the members of the Presidium of the KS opposition by Maria Kolesnikova and Maxim’s sign. They are accused of calls to actions aimed at causing harm to national security, in a conspiracy in order to capture power by unconstitutional means and in the creation of extremist formation.

On August 9, 2020, presidential elections were held in Belarus. The CEC announced that Alexander Lukashenko ran up for the sixth term, I scored 80 percent of the votes, and the chief opposition candidate, the wife of the arrested blogger Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 10 percent. This caused mass protests throughout the country that continued for several months. A number of opposition politicians and activists were arrested or left abroad.
