Designer from Hong Kong demanded to allow wearing shorts in prison

Designer from Hong Kong Chung’s vanity accused the prison administration in discrimination on sexual basis and demanded from court to allow women in the summer to wear shorts in prison. It is reported by South China Morning POST.

According to the girl, in May, the prison administration demanded from prisoners to change the winter sets of clothing on the summer. However, the shorts were allowed to wear only men in custody. Women are still forced to wear a winter uniform that provokes diseases.

Designer stated that such an appeal with women in prison is illegal, as it contradicts the provisions of the current mini-constitution of the city. Her lawyers noted that such clothing requirements “have nothing to do with discipline” and contradict logic. “They are especially absurd in the light of the fact that men-prisoners are allowed in the summer to shoot T-shirts,” the human rights defenders emphasize.

The prison administration refused to comment on the accusations, as the case was already submitted to the trial.

In 2020, Hong Kong Court of Appeal made short haircuts mandatory for both sexes. This happened because of the complaints of the opposition deputy of LUN KOK-HUNA. The politician was forced to cut his hair, which was considered by sexual discrimination.
