The actions of the Security Service of the State Border of Lithuania, whose employees unfold migrants on the border with Belarus, do not agree with the Convention on the Status of Refugees, nor with the Charter of the European Union (EU) on the fundamental human rights. This was stated by the Red Cross Program Manager Egli Delfi writes.
In particular, she criticized the Lithuanian authorities for the fact that they do not pass into the country “vulnerable” illegal migrants. To their number, they delivered women and minors. According to her, after they refuse to reflux on the border, they turn out to be “in unsafe conditions.”
The representative of the Red Cross also expressed concern because of the “disproportionate use of force” by the Lithuanian border guards and called on them to “adequately take care” about the illegals that are already on the territory of Lithuania.
earlier in Minsk accused Vilnius in beating and violent expulsion of illegal migrants to Belarus. In the Belarusian State Border Committee (GPC), they stated that such actions of the Lithuanian side are subject to investigation by international bodies.
In August, the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Agne Tilty allowed employees of the border guard to apply force against illegal immigrants from Belarus. In her opinion, new powers will allow border guards to more efficiently prevent disorders from refugees.
