Onishchenko explained meaning of meat tax

State Duma deputy, a former Sanitary doctor of Russia Gennady Onishchenko on the air radio “says Moscow” explained that the meat tax makes sense only if the authorities seek to reduce the population. Thus, he commented on the idea expressed by the Special Representative of the President on the issues of digital and technological development Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, fees from meat producers will inevitably lead to a reduction in the production, which will make the product more expensive and less affordable despite the fact that about a billion people on the planet do not have free access to food.

Onishchenko reminded that the lack of meat in the diet of children can lead to delays in development, which means that the meat tax will provide many of them protein hunger. “And how are we going to solve the country’s defense capability, if we have children a priori hungry, physically and mentally retard in development?” – The deputy was surprised.

According to him, in Russia, the poor population is 20 million people, and additionally limit them access to development, concluded onishchenko, will become too high for the ecology.

Peskov explained his initiative to high carbon trails of animal husbandry. The official noted that the policy of reducing harmful emissions can reach meat for several years. And first in the country will be indignant, but then it will still have to pay.

Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes Sergey Katasonov said that he did not see the possibility of the introduction of such a tax, because he would lead to social dissatisfaction. The Ministry of Finance assured that such an idea is not discussed in any form, the more the amendments to legislation are not considered.

In early August, the idea of the meat tax was expressed by the head of the world’s largest producer of the so-called vegetable meat Beyond Meat Itan Brown. In his opinion, only in this way can countries be made in the production of vegetable protein.
