European Union accused Lukashenko in violation of Olympic truce due to Timanovskaya

Incident with the Belarusian athlete of Christina Timanovskaya led to a violation of the Olympic truce. This was stated by the representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Safety Politics Josep Borrel in twitter .

The head of the EU International diplomacy accused the situation of the Belarusian President of Alexander Lukashenko in the current situation. According to him, another “proud citizen of Belarus” was forced to escape from the country due to the regime of the state leader. “I feel relief, seeing that Christina Timanovskaya athlete has arrived safely in Poland,” concluded Borrel.

Prior to this US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken accused Lukashenko in the undermining of the Olympic Spirit because of the incident with the athlete. He stated that the regime of the President of the Republic was aimed at committing an act of repression against Timanovskaya, trying to force her to leave the Olympiad “just that she took the right to freedom of speech.”

On August 1, the coaching headquarters of the Belarusian team excluded Timanovskaya from a 200 meters race at the Olympics in Japan. The opposition fund of sports solidarity stated that the athlete was forcibly exported from Tokyo. The girl appealed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) asking for help in the current situation. Subsequently, she and her husband got Polish humanitarian visas and crossed in Warsaw.
