announced About opening source texts of the ORBITER Space Flight Simulator , offering a realistic simulator of space flights, corresponding to the laws of Newtonian mechanics. As a motive, the opening of the code is a desire to provide the community with the opportunity to continue the development of the project after the author has not been developing for several years for personal reasons. The project code is written in C ++ with scripts on Lua and published under the MIT license. In the current form, only the Windows platform is supported, and Microsoft Visual Studio is required to compile. Published source texts comply with the release of “2016 Edition” with additional corrections.
The program offers models of both historical and modern spacecraft and hypothetically possible and fantastic spacecraft. The key difference of Orbiter from computer games is that the project does not offer the passage of some missions, and provides the ability to simulate real flight, covering the fulfillment of such tasks as a calculation of the exit to orbit, docking with other devices and planning the flight path to other planets. The simulation uses a sufficiently detailed model of the solar system.
