In Lithuania, over the past day, they caught a record number of illegal migrants who arrived in the country from the territory of Belarus. This was announced by the head of the State Border Protection Service (Sogg) of the Republic of Rustamas Lubayevas, writes IRT.
According to border guards, on Sunday, August 1, 289 migrants were detained, illegally crossed the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. Most of them introduced themselves as citizens of Iraq. Lyubayez also stated that on the night of August 1 to 2 August, the security officials were able to catch another 109 people.
A representative of Sogg Gedryus Mishutyis noted that if he used to normally crossed the border at night and avoided areas equipped with video surveillance, now they are moving it even under the cameras and at any time of the day. He stressed that the state is at the limit of opportunities on the distribution of illegal migrants arriving in the country.
The previous record in the number of detained illegals in Lithuania was installed on July 27. Then the border guards were caught 171 people. All caught migrants had the citizenship of Iraq, or presented themselves with immigrants from this country.
July 26, in the service of state protection of borders, they reported that for an incomplete month, Lithuanian border guards detained 100 times more illegal immigrants from Belarus than in January.
