Lithuanian authorities declared price of protection against Belarusian migrants

Technical security work of the Lithuanian section of the external borders of the European Union will cost 500 thousand euros. About this Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania Agnei Tiltyae reported at a meeting with the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ilva Johansson, which is located in Vilnius with a working visit.

Tilty said that Lithuania faces a hybrid aggression, which, according to her, is directed not only against Lithuania, but also against the entire European Union and its main democratic values.

“One of the necessary measures we must take immediately – this is the installation of a physical barrier between Lithuania and according to preliminary calculations, only the technical measures to enhance the border control will cost approximately 500 thousand euros,” said Tilty.

The European Commissioner, in turn, supported the decision of Lithuania to establish a physical barrier on the border with Belarus and promised to allocate Lithuania 10-12 million euros for the implementation of measures for the protection of the border and the decision of the migration crisis.

Earlier, the head of the European Union Jozep Borrel stated that the authorities of the participating countries would consider the possibility of imposing sanctions against those engaged in the importation of illegal migrants from Belarus to the territory of the association. He also stressed that the European Union condemns the “Belarusian regime” for the use of refugees and migrants as a tool to achieve political goals.
