President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko recalled how defended Belarusian oppositionists. He spoke about it during a meeting with officials on topical issues of socio-political situation, writes BelTA.
According to him, on August 9, 2020, on the day of the election of the President of the Republic, unknowns planned to set fire to the house, in which representatives of the opposition gathered. Lukashenko remembered how Valery Vacultrel was addressed to the former Chairman of the Committee of State Security (KGB) and asked to send to the site of the collection of opposition Special Forces “Alpha”, which was guarded by the Independence Palace in Minsk. “We will stand with you with automatic machines, but to protect this house. Burn the scoundrels and accused us,” said the head of state.
Lukashenko added that he learned about the planned attack due to the military, who at that moment was guarded by the leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. “And he realized that being trouble. He understood who could solve this issue. And he called the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the president explained.
During the performance, Lukashenko’s officials also told the details of Tikhanovskaya departure to Lithuania. He stressed that she was not blackmail to children and were not forced to leave the country. The head of the republic also stated that before leaving Belarus, she asked 15 thousand dollars from the Belarusian authorities (more than one million rubles).
