Russian Corvettes of the 20386 type “Mercury” may face the same problems as American coastal combat ships Freedom and Independence types, writes The National Interest.
The publication reminds that in April the first corvette of the project 20386 type “Mercury” was launched on the water without superstructure after almost five years after the bookmark. The American magazine is confident that this may indicate the difficulties that the creators of the ship collided.
Among the problems that may accompany the construction of promising Russian corvette, the costs of funds and technical malfunctions are called. In particular, it is said about the unsuccessful choice of motor installation, the non-optimal design of the radar system and the insufficient combat capability of Corvette.
The National Interest concludes that the Corvette of the project 20386 type “Mercury” “remains a unique testing ground until its capabilities reach perfection.”
In January, the Edition of Defense News wrote that the world’s largest military industrial company, American Lockheed Martin, stopped the supply of US Navy coastal warships such as Freedom. According to the publication information, the reason for the temporary termination of the supply was the constructive drawback of the transmission of the ship’s motor installation, in the development of which the German company Renk was involved.
