A group of Canadian scientists is developing an algorithm that will be able to analyze wastewater and determine in which areas there is a flash of coronavirus, reports CTVNews.
According to researchers, special sensors will be placed in the sewer wells, which will identify the residual SARS-COV-2 genes in the excrement of people. If the virus is detected, the device will send an alarm signal to the laboratory, and then scientists can already manually check the waste of a specific manifold. According to scientists, this whole process will take no more than a day.
A similar system is already used in many areas of Ottawa, but now the materials of all wells have to be collected manually. The new system will make it possible to more accurately predict, in which areas the flash of coronavirus begins and send locals for testing or self-insulation.
Subsequently, scientists consider, this algorithm can be used to track other viruses, as well as for analyzing chemicals in the sewer system. This will help identify the location of laboratories for the production of explosives and drugs.
