Ministry of Foreign Affairs allowed return of ambassadors of Russia and United States after summit in Geneva

The Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Ryabkov made the return of the Russian ambassadors in Moscow and Washington to their embassies after the President of Vladimir Putin’s presidents and Joe Bayden in Geneva on June 16. He stated this in an interview with the newspaper “Izvestia”.

“I admit that one of the results will be the decision of the leaders that the ambassadors are returned and proceed to the implementation of understanding or agreements that will be achieved at the summit,” said Ryabkov. In his opinion, it became an important signal that “a certainly complex page turns over and something new”.

Diplomat noted that on the one hand, it would be naive to expect large-scale distant breakthroughs, taking into account the current state of relations with the United States, but, on the other hand, if not to create a base for further movement, then these breakthroughs will never come. According to him, the Russian manual proceeds exactly from this, “When instructions gives, when we prepare materials and in contact with the Americans we work out the moments necessary for, as we hope, a successful summit.” “Such a platform, especially in the field of arms control, as the result of the summit would be a very important and serious achievement and insurance policy, or for the future,” the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

The meeting of Byyden and Putin will be held on June 16 at Villa La Grunge in Swiss Geneva. The joint event of the leaders of the two countries will be the first since the entry of Byjden to the position. Putin’s trip to Geneva will be the first foreign visit of the Russian President from January 2020.
