Borrel told condition for entry of Kosovo in EU

Head of the international diplomacy of the European Union Josep Borrel called the condition for the entry of Serbia and Kosovo to the union. His words reports TASS.

Diplomat spoke before the negotiations of the President of Serbia Alexander Vucich with Prime Minister Kosovo Albin Kurtie. He noted that the constructive dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the mediation of the European party, will be “skipping” for countries in the EU. “Without this dialogue, economic progress and prosperity in the region will be undermined,” Borrel emphasized.

The diplomat also noted that he is pleased to hold a discussion between Serbia and Kosovo while the US President discusses cooperation with the European Union at the Brussels summit.

On June 2, Vucić said that the United States and Germany demand from Serbia to recognize Kosovo’s independence. He noted that during the negotiations, the Serbian government is trying to defend the interests of his country and the people, but all conversations are reduced to the requirements of recognition of Kosovo. The president concluded that the West requires “mutual recognition” by Belgrade and the prownine each other.

The Republic of Kosovo is a partially recognized state in the Balkan Peninsula. It is mostly inhabited by ethnic Albanians, but the Serbian population is also present. Serbia considers the autonomous region of Kosovo and Metokhia – the so-called region in the Serbian constitution – part of its territory, local authorities announced independence in 2008.

According to the latest data, the republic recognized about a hundred countries, including 22 of the 27 EU participating States. Meanwhile, Kosovo is not a UN member. Russia Independence Kosovo does not recognize.
