Mortal danger of cosmetics is revealed

University of Notre Dama disclosed that many cosmetics sold in the United States and Canada contain high levels of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – a class of potentially toxic compounds that cause a number of serious and deadly diseases. The results of the study are published in Journal of Environmental Science and Technology Letters.

Researchers tested with gamma spectroscopy 231 cosmetic, including conservalers, tonal bases, eyelashes and eyebrows and various means for lips. It turned out that 56 percent of tonal creams and agents for the eyelids, 48 percent of lip funds and 47 percent of the tested masters for eyelashes contain a high level of fluorine. Of the eight tested categories, the tonal bases, carcasses and means for the lips had the greatest share of products with a high content of total fluorine (more or equal to 0.384 micrograms per square centimeter).

29 products, including 20 products with high concentrations of the total fluorine, were analyzed using gas and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. PFAS concentrations ranged from 22 to 10,500 nanograms per gram of product weight. Fluorute-modern compounds, including alcohols, methacrylates and phosphoric acid esters, which are PFAS predecessors, are most often detected.

alarming is that the lists of ingredients of most tested products did not disclose the presence of fluorinated compounds. PFAS are resistant toxic substances that are inclined to accumulate in the human body. Research links some compounds containing fluorine with kidney cancer and eggs, hypertension, thyroid diseases, low body weight at birth and impaired immune system in children.
