The leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya arrived in Berlin to negotiations with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry) of Germany and the Office of the Federal Chancellor Angels Merkel. This is reported in Telegram-channel of the Belarusian policy.
Tikhanovskaya discussed the reaction of the European Union (EU) to the forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft in Minsk.
At the meetings, she also raised the issue of assistance to the victims during the protests of Belarusians, in particular, she discussed the idea of creating a special program for helping repressed students, doctors, workers and employees of independent media. The parties discussed the possibility of simplifying the process of obtaining German visas, especially those who should immediately leave Belarus.
Tikhanovskaya at the same time assured that Merkel will raise the question of the situation in Belarus at G7 and NATO summits.
On June 10, the Informant of the Bloomberg edition reported that the EU intends to impose sanctions against more than 70 people and organizations within the framework of the new round of punitive measures against Belarus.
On May 23, the airline Ryanair airlines flying from Athens to Vilnius made an emergency landing in Minsk after mining reports. On board the creator of the Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich was detained by law enforcement officers. After the incident, Tikhanovskaya asked EU to introduce new sanctions against Belarus. According to her, opposition structures themselves insisted on new restrictions. She noted that the ultimate goal of the fight against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko should be “fair elections and democratic reforms.”
