The EU authorities struck in the economy of Belarus, having coordinated new sanctions against the country, reports TASS with reference to the Austrian APA agency.
It is noted that the restrictions will affect the oil and gas industries, potash production, which are one of the main directions of exports from Belarus, as well as telecommunications. What specific measures will be accepted until it is specified.
In addition, Brussels previously agreed a ban on issuing Minsk new loans, trade in securities and investment services.
Earlier, Austria blocked the introduction of sanctions against the banking sector of Belarus. Austrian diplomats under anonymity conditions noted that Vienna puts “financial interests above principles.”
The discussion of new sanctions against Belarus began after the incident with the Irish Ryanair aircraft, which made an emergency landing at Minsk airport due to the report of the allegedly laid bomb. Later, the Belarusian authorities were detained on board the oppositionist, the founder of the Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich.
