Russia called on Latvia to stop discrimination of Russians

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharov called on the Latvian authorities to stop the systemic discrimination of Russian-speaking citizens and provide Russian official legal status. She wrote about this in his TelerGam channel in response to the statement by the President of Latvia Egils Levves, who reported on the presence of discrimination in the labor market of the country in relation to workers who do not speak Russian.

“I want to answer Mr. Levvesz, that this is not a Soviet heritage, and the EU’s present. Democracy, to which Latvia sought so,” said Zakharov.

She suggested that his statement Levves decided to “distract the publication of the public from the claims of the international community to ensuring the systemic discrimination of Russian-speaking citizens internal politics leading to them.”

Earlier on June 17, Levves called the Russian language with the recovery of the occupation and predicted his displacement in the English country.

Before that, Latvian Ambassador to Russia Maris Riekstins said that relations between countries are in the worst condition since the end of the Cold War.

Now in Latvia Latvian language is the only state. Native for almost 40 percent of the population, Russian has a foreign status. According to the legislation, which will finally enter into force on September 1, 2021, in schools where national minorities study, most of the subjects should be taught in Latvian – Russian remains only in the lessons of Russian language and literature, as well as “subjects related to culture and history” .
