Belarus rolled on the 117th place in the “Global Peace Index”. This is reported by TASS with reference to the annual report of the Institute of Economics and Peace.
Research covers 163 countries where 99.7 percent of the world’s population lives. The rating is based on such factors as the level of cohesion of society, respect for human rights, political and economic stability, the number of prisoners in prisons, the danger of terrorist threat, defense costs and participation in hostilities.
Belarus compared to last year dropped at 19 positions, losing 0.183 points. More indoor index decreased only at Burkina Faso, which occupied 134 place.
The fall of the Belarusian rating is caused by four reasons, the authors of the study said. This is a decrease in political stability, an increase in the number of demonstrations with the use of force, strengthening the internal conflict and deterioration of relations with other states.
Russia, as in the past year, took the 154th line out of 163. The first is Iceland, on the last – Afghanistan.
In Belarus, on August 9, 2020, the presidential elections were held, in which, according to official data, the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, defeated 80 percent of the votes. It caused mass protests that continued for several months.
