US fears “militarization” of the Arctic by Russia. This was stated by a high-ranking representative of the American administration, summing up the meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States Vladimir Putin and Joe Bayiden, reports RIA Novosti.
According to the official, the American side has two concerns. One of them is supposedly interested in Russia in greater militarization of the Arctic. “We believe that this is directly contrary to our stated wishes – to ensure that the Arctic remains in a region of peaceful cooperation,” he said.
Another related issue is the northern seaway. As the American representative stressed, he is currently passing much more time in a year, the sooner, so the movement on it will become more active. “This, in turn, can potentially lead to a greater opportunity of incidents, misunderstanding, miscalculations,” the official explained.
Vladimir Putin at a press conference after a meeting with Joe Biden in Geneva, said that the concern of the American side about the militarization of the Arctic does not have absolutely no reason. He added that Russia restores the once lost infrastructure.
