Psychologists from Tel Aviv University called dissatisfaction with the matrimonial life of one of the reasons for the premature death of married men, writes The Times of Israel.
A new study shows that dissatisfaction with the marriage in its influence on the life expectancy among men can be compared with such risk factors as smoking and lack of physical activity. The study is based on extensive medical data obtained as a result of 32-year studies that tracked 10 thousand Israeli men and their mortality.
“When we know more about the connection between psychological well-being and physical health, we found that marriage satisfaction at the beginning of the study was the prognostic factor in death as a whole and death from stroke,” said Dr. Shahar Lev-Ari (Shahar Lev-Ari ), Head of the Health Strengthening Department of Public Health Medical Faculty of Sacler Tel Aviv University.
Men who were dissatisfied with their marriage, on average, 19 percent more often died during the study than their peers who were satisfied with relations. Scientists stated that dissatisfaction with the marriage could predict the risk of death. “This study convincingly suggests that marriage satisfaction and its fortress deserve investments by public health institutions. At the same level, on what they invest in the fight against smoking and encouraging exercise,” Lion-Ari is sure.
