Black American George Floyd, who died during his arrest last year, set a monument in New York. The statue made from the thick sheets of bright plywood, opened with the participation of Floyd family members, reports USA Today.
Monument in the form of a man’s head, made of layers from sheets of woody material, will have two weeks at the crossroads in Brooklyn, and then it will move to Manhattan.
“My brother was a victim, and you all should continue to attract attention to this, let my older brother continue to ring in our ears,” said, opening a statue, brother of the deceased Floyd.
On the same day, New Jersey opened another monument to George Floyd: a bronze statue weighing more than 300 kilograms.
The appearance of both statues was timed to the holiday on June 19 (“Junetenth”) dedicated to freedom of slavery. A few days earlier it became known that this date, which is celebrated in most states, made the official federal holiday.
