Candidate President of Estonia Henna Dylaluaas demanded from Russia to “return” part of the territory. He stated this at the congress of the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE), RIA Novosti reports.
Põlluaas noted that the Tartu Mirny Agreement concluded in 1920, as well as the state border specified in it still act. Estonian politician also stressed that he opposes the ratification of the border agreement with Russia. According to the presidential candidate, the Russian authorities should give Tallinn a part of the right bank of Narva and Pechora district.
Previously, during its New Year’s appeal to Citizens, Dylaluaas also made territorial claims to Russia. As stated in the State Duma, such statements of representatives of the Estonian authorities create additional tensions in the relations of the two countries. It is noted that Moscow recognizes the Tartu Mirny Treaty only as a historical document and does not consider it in force.
Negotiations on the border between Russia and Estonia continue for many years. In 2005, the parties signed the first border agreement, but during ratification, the Estonian side included the mention of the Tartu peace treaty, after which Moscow recalled the signature. In 2014, the countries signed a new agreement that is not ratified.
