Belarus prompted way to pay with Russia

The authorities of the participating countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) suggested Belarus. The method of paying to Russia for a loan, issued for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (Belayes), writes Kommersant. In this way, the transit of the electricity supplied to the export is supplied.

In an interview with the head of the Energy Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission (ECE), Vadim Zagrevsky said that the management of the EAEU discusses the possibility of creating a common electricity market (OER). And he may appear before the formation of a similar gas market, which previously acted against Minsk.

It is assumed that the OER may appear by 2025. It will allow EEAS countries to trade electricity among themselves and with external buyers – through authorized operators. At the same time, within the framework of a single market, a common pricing mechanism will be created, primarily on the transit of electricity through the territory of the participating countries.

Currently, each of them exhibits the cost of transit in its territory postfactum, which makes it difficult for potential suppliers to calculate profitability and makes deliveries for them unattractive.

Until this year, only Russia was engaged in electricity supply to foreign markets. In 2019, she sold Finland seven billion kilowatts / hour for 21.9 billion rubles and Lithuania – 6.3 billion kilowatt / hour for 20.5 billion rubles. However, in the case of the creation of the OER to export, Belarus may be connected, which has formed a surplus of electricity thanks to the construction of Beestes.

Her construction was carried out on the funds of a loan provided by Russia in the amount of 10 billion dollars. Thus, in the price of electricity transit when delivered from Belarus to Finland through the territory of Russia, a loan may be laid.
