The policy of the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko is still stronger than the methods of totalitarian states. This opinion was expressed by the UN Special Force on the situation with human rights in Belarus Anis Marrene, her words reported Euronews.
Marare reminded the incident with the emergency landing of the airline Ryanair in Minsk, after which the founder of the Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich was detained. She emphasized that the actions of the Belarusian authorities in this situation talk about the desire to put an end to all the forms of dissent and clear society from “unwanted elements”. The UN representative compared the decisions of the Belarusian president with “cleaning” characteristic of totalitarian political regimes.
the speaker stated that the situation with violation of human rights in Belarus seriously worsens. According to her, the Belarusian authorities began a full-fledged attack on all civil society. Maren called on Minsk to free 530 political prisoners who hold in the country’s prisons to avoid strengthening the sanctions of the West.
On June 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus presented a report on the most resonant cases of human rights violations in Western countries. The report mentions a number of EU countries, USA, Great Britain and Canada. According to Belarusian diplomats, “before imposing their vision of human rights in other regions, our colleagues in the West need to look at themselves.”
After the incident with the forced boarding of the Ryanair board in Minsk, the European Union introduced new economic sanctions against Belarus. Under them were 166 physical and 15 legal entities. The restrictions were connected to the United Kingdom, USA and Canada.
