French manufacturer of alcoholic beverages Moet Hennessy temporarily suspended the supply of champagne to Russia. About this RIA Novosti reported the Director of Communications of the Head Office of Anne Catherine Grimal.
Changes in the law It commented on this: “These provisions lead to a temporary suspension of products supplies to assess the consequences of this new law.”
Earlier in July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law, which defines the conditions for the label of the name “Cognac of Russia”. Thus, wine-growing farms carrying out the production of brandy, fully produced from grapes grown in Russia, has the right to indicate on the label of such products the name “Cognac of Russia”. Now the products of Moet Hennessy supplied to Russia should be referred to as sparkling wine, not champagne.
The company first refused to change the labels on the labels of its products, and therefore announced that she suspends cooperation with Russian partners. In response, the Winemakers of Russia accused her blackmail. Later, the Bloomberg Agency, with reference to the statement, the company complained that Moet Hennessy would restore the supply of his champagne to Russia, and on the bottles of champagne sent to Russia, there will be marked with the inscription “Sparkling Wine.”
In turn, the Union of Houses of Champagne France (UMC) allowed the suspension of champagne supplies to Russia. Union considered a new Russian law unacceptable.
