Beam relay system successfully completed tasks on start of MS-17 freight ship

Multifunctional Space Relay System “Light” successfully completed target tasks during the launch of the Soyuz-2.1A carrier missile with the Progress MS-17 transport truck from the Baikonur cosmodrome June 30, 2021.

After the exit of the “progress” from the zone of the radio abuse of ground-based communication (11th minute), the transfer of telemetric and command information from the spacecraft was carried out by means of the “Ray” system (the operator – the satellite system “The Racon” is part of the state corporation “Roskosmos “). To this end, the channels of the Satellites “Bump-5a” and “Bump-5b”, onboard equipment installed on a spacecraft, ground infrastructure were used. Changing replacements in normal mode performed tasks for planning and monitoring sessions of relay.

In total, starting with the withdrawal of “progress” to the near-earth orbit until its docking with the International Space Station is completed on July 2 at 03:59 Moscow time, 23 relay sessions were successfully held. Target information was successfully obtained and brought to end users. The planned operation of the multifunctional space system of the beam relay with the downed MS-17 progress cargo ship will continue in accordance with the established schedule.
