The Power of Montenegro, which joined NATO in 2017, wanted to restore relations with Russia for the development of bilateral economic cooperation. This was stated by Chairman of the Country Parliamentary Committee on Security and Defense Milan Knejevich, his words reported RIA Novosti.
Politician noted that Montenegro for a long time was a popular destination for traveling and buying real estate from Russians. He stressed that this situation began to worsen after the country’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance and the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions.
During his visit to Moscow, Knejevich identified the main questions in the interaction of the two countries that need to work. “We are here to show that in Montenegro, there are still political forces on which these relationships can be opened. Here, including the economic task,” he stressed. According to politics, it is necessary to resume straight flights between Russia and Montenegro. He also called on to resolve the import of Chernogorsk products to the Russian territory.
Knejevich positively appreciated the cooperation of Russia and Montenegro in the fight against COVID-19. He said that the Russian drug from Coronavirus “Satellite V” entered the country before other vaccines.
Relations between Moscow and Podgorica worsened after the accession of Montenegro to European sanctions against the Russian side in 2014. In 2015, the Montenegrin authorities strengthened the regime of restrictions against Russia. In response, Moscow distributed food embargo on the country.
