A resident of Vilnius Robertas Pinkytis was going to apply to the court with a civil suit against the former President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev. This is reported by the DELFI portal.
According to him, Gorbachev, as the Commander-in-Chief of the USSR Armed Forces, should be held responsible for the events from Vilnius Tenerbashni on January 13, 1991, in which the father of Povylitis was killed.
“Since the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania refused to initiate the question of Gorbachev’s responsibility in criminal proceedings, I as a citizen I want to raise the question of Gorbachev’s responsibility for killing on January 13,” he explained.
Pinklytis has not yet called the amount of the claim for the former Soviet leader. In addition, he doubts that it will be able to recover.
In December 2016, the Vilnius District Court has already caused Gorbachev for questioning on the event of January 1991 events. Prior to this, the Lithuanian Prosecutor’s Office reported on the refusal of Moscow to interrogate the former President of the USSR at the request of the Lithuanian side.
In the early 1990s, the Lithuanian Prosecutor’s Office opened a case due to events on January 13, 1991. On that day, 15 people were killed in Vilnius in Vilnius by the Soviet military, about 600 were injured. Currently, more than 60 persons are sentenced in this case.
