In April of this year, the import of palm oil and its fractions amounted to 109 thousand tons. Russia sharply increased the purchase of this product, they took off 58.9 percent compared with April 2020, the materials of Rosstat say.
From January to April of this year, 360 thousand tons of palm oil and its fractions were imported to Russia, which is 20.5 percent more compared to the same period last year. However, in 2020, the import product has decreased relative to 2019 by 3.4 percent (up to 1.025 million tons).
Earlier it was reported that in January, imports increased by 18.8 percent in annual terms (up to 92.9 thousand tons). In June, the deputy head of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia should not import products from abroad, taking into account its agricultural opportunities. He also noted that sanctions against Russia forced the country to develop their agro-industrial complex.
Meanwhile, the Russians began to move on cheese substitutes due to falling income. Cheese products – an inexpensive alternative to cheese (worth a third cheaper), with their production it is possible to use vegetable fats, such as palm oil.
