The leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya met with the former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during his visit to Washington. The message appeared in the official telegram channel policy.
According to her, the conversation lasted about 45 minutes. The parties discussed pressure on the Belarusian regime, the support of the opponents of the President of Alexander Lukashenko remaining in the country, as well as building relationships with Japan, India and Australia.
“It was a very warm and useful meeting. I am grateful to the Condolysis of Rice for all its advice. She knows the situation in Belarus perfectly and generously shares its experience,” said Tikhanovskaya.
Rice also positively responded about negotiations with the Belarusian politician. “Your commitment to the spread of democracy in Eastern Europe inspires,” she wrote in twitter .
Tikhanovskaya arrived in the US on July 18. She held negotiations with US Secretary-General Anthony Blinken, Advisor to President Joseph Biden on National Security Jake Sullivan, American Ambassador in Belarus, Julie Fisher and Head of State himself.
In particular, the opposition leader requested the American president to help Belarusians commit a “non-violent transition to democracy” and support political prisoners. “Biden said that the world continues the struggle between autocracy and democracy. And you know that Belarus is in this struggle on the front line,” said Tikhanovskaya after the meeting.
