Alexander Nikolaevich Balandin performed one space flight as a farther engineer of the Soyuz TM-9 spacecraft and a long expedition to the Mir station.
Start took place on February 11, and return to Earth – August 9, 1990. During the space flight A.N. Balandin made two outlets in open space with a total duration of 10 hours 32 minutes.
The first step on the road to orbit for Alexander Balandin was the end of the Moscow Supreme Technical School (now – Moscow State Technical University) named after AD. Bauman with a degree in the “Dynamics of Flight and Management” to obtain the qualification “Mechanical Engineer”. In 1976, A.N. Balandin went to work in the NGO “Energia” (now – RKK “Energia”, is part of the state response “Roskosmos”) – first in the 112nd department, where he was engaged in controlling flights, then in the 17th department in which he developed Simulators and booths of the Soyuz ship. From 1977 to admission to the squad of the cosmonautov A.N. Balandin worked in the 110th department as a crew methodologist for ship activities.
In 1978, Alexander Balandin received admission to the main medical commission for the specialties and was enrolled in the “Energy” cosmonauts squad. From 1979 to 1984, he was trained in the Cosmonauts group under the Burand program, then proceeded to prepare a group for flight to the World Orbital Complex. From September 1989 to January 1990, A.N. Balandin was preparing for flight as a flight engineer of the main crew of the main expedition EO-5 at OK “Mir” along with Anatoly Solovyov.
at the end of A.N. flight Baladine was awarded the high title Hero of the Soviet Union.
